A Sesser, Illinois native led an interesting life before, during and after World War Two and now Warren "Gene" Moore's son is sharing that story with us. Gary Moore has authored "Playing with the Enemy." It talks about his father signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers at the age of 15. But then World War Two happened and Moore's father was assigned to the U-S Navy North African touring baseball team that followed Patton's 7th Army entertaining the troops. Later his father's team was assigned to guard prisoners of war off a German U-sub and ended up teaching the German prisoners how to play baseball. Gary Moore says he grew up unaware of his father's story...and almost never found out about it at all. Moore says he father never told him his story until the day before he died of a heart attack. Now Moore's story will soon come to the silver screen. Moore says shooting of the motion picture based on his book will begin in about two months and the movie could be released next summer. Gary Moore shared his story in Peoria today giving the keynote speech before the Salvation Army Civic Luncheon at the Holiday Inn City Centre.
