Fireworks company ready to give Peoria a big fireworks display

An official from Melrose Pyrotechnics suggests getting a good spot to see the fireworks on Friday night where you can see both the sky and the ground. Bob Kerns with Melrose Pyrotechnics says his company will shoot off both high and low displays.
The "Methodist Red, White and Boom" is a joint effort between the cities of East Peoria and Peoria and is organized by 1470 WMBD owners JMP Radio Group. Kerns says it takes a lot of planning to do a show like this each year. He said the work people don't notice includes thousands and thousands of hours spent working on logistics with a barge tug company, the coast guard, and organizing the music soundtrack.
Kerns says the 28-minute show will have an olympic theme to start off and will be like a lot of mini-shows inside one big show timed to the music.$77,000 worth of fireworks will go up above the river. That is a 50-percent increase over the show last year.
