Construction has begun on a new long-term acute care facility in Peoria. The 56,000 square foot building is thanks to a partnership between Methodist Medical Center and Rehab Care Group Inc.
Officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the future structure at 500 West Romeo B. Garrett Avenue Wednesday morning.
Methodist President and CEO Michael Bryant says the facility will have 50 beds and be one of it's kind in the area. Bryant believes that will draw patients from as far north as I-80 all the way down to Springfield.
The center will be a place for patients who need care longer than a typical hospital provides. The Greater Peoria Specialty Hospital is expected to employ 100 people and see 550 patients annually. Bryant says it will cost about $15-$20-million. It should be completed by next spring. |
