Lt. Governor Wants To Increase Illinois Family Relief Fund

Illinois Lt. Governor Pat Quinn stopped at Peoria's Army Recruiting Station Wednesday afternoon to tout the Illinois Family Relief Fund. The program provides financial support to National Guard and Reserve Service members deployed in support of the global war on terror.
Quinn says the Independence Day weekend is a good time for people to donate to the fund and to remind members of the military in Illinois who have been deployed, that this program is available to them. The Lt. Governor says more money needs to be added to keep the fund solvent.
A recent study shows 55 percent of married National Guard and Reserve Service members report a loss of income in their civilian jobs when they are called to active duty. 15 percent reportedly experience a pay cut of $30,000 or more.
