Peoria Park District offering safe teen activities
Shaun Newell Reporting
Members of the Peoria Park District Youth Outreach Program are holding the first event for high school aged students they say is ELITE Certified. Outreach Coordinator Carl Cannon says that means there will be a police presence, adult chaperones, a dress code and other things to make it safe for the teens.
Cannon says the first event is this Saturday at the Riverplex where a dance will be held for high school students from 8pm to midnight. Cannon says any high school student can attend, but trouble is not welcome.
He encourages other events held for teens to become ELITE Certified. He says other organizations have to meet the requirements to get the certification, but it will show they are working to protect the children.
For an event to be ELITE Certified thee organizers have to show how they will meet the criteria. It will then be reviewed by ELITE officials along with other community members.
