(AP) - The St. Louis Cardinals captured a three-game weekend series 2-1 over the Chicago Cubs with a 5-3 victory Sunday at Busch Stadium. The Cubs are in Cincinnati today to begin a three-game series against the Reds and the Cardinals are in Colorado for a four-game series against the Rockies. Last night, Albert Pujols hit a two-run double in the fourth inning that was the go-ahead hit in the Cardinals' victory. Pujols has reached base in 32 straight games. Adam Kennedy had a pair of RBI singles. Cards starter Todd Wellemeyer improved to 3-and-1. He beat the team that drafted him in 2000 and gave him his first shot in the major leagues with five solid innings, helping the Cardinals take two of three from their Central Division rival.

(AP) - The Chicago White Sox are in Toronto today where they'll try to avoid a Blue Jays sweep in the last game of a four-game series. Sunday Toronto beat the White Sox 4-3 to take a 3-0 lead in the series. It marks Chicago's season-high fifth loss in a row. Chicago's Jose Contreras pitched a complete game but took the loss. He gave up four runs and six hits and drops to 2-and-3. The White Sox have lost eight of 11 to fall below .500 for the first time since they were 1-and-2. Chicago has scored just nine runs in its past five games and has the lowest team batting average in the American League at .232.

(From Peoria Chiefs) The Peoria Chiefs were shutout 2-0 Sunday afternoon by three pitchers, including Jarrod Parker, the top ranked prospect in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. The loss to the Silver Hawks drops Peoria to 10-19 on the season and 1-2 on their 10-game roadtrip. Parker (2-1), the ninth overall selection in last June’s draft, tied a career high with six strikeouts over a career-high six innings. He allowed just four hits, two of which didn’t leave the infield. Tom Layne retired all six batters he faced over two innings with a pair of strikeouts. Evan Scribner picked up his second save as he struck out the side in the ninth. Peoria now heads to Cedar Rapids for a three-game series against the Kernels.
