Hy-Vee to be built at Sheridan Village
Peoria is getting a new grocery store. Officials from Hy-Vee Inc. announced Thursday plans to build a store in Sheridan Village Shopping Center. It will be the first Hy-Vee in Peoria and the 12th store in Illinois. Officials say it will be 84,000 square feet with an attached store for wines and spirits. An official from Melrose Pyrotechnics suggests getting a good spot to see the fireworks on Friday night where you can see both the sky and the ground. Bob Kerns with Melrose Pyrotechnics says his company will shoot off both high and low displays.The "Methodist Red, White and Boom" is a joint effort between the cities of East Peoria and Peoria and is organized by 1470 WMBD owners JMP Radio Group. Peoria Rivermen sale to St. Louis Blues complete
The principal owners of the St. Louis Blues have now taken control of the Peoria Rivermen. SCP Worldwide has announced they have closed on the purchase of the Peoria Rivermen from Bruce Saurs and Anne Griffith. The move was approved by the American Hockey League last week. Saurs will stay on in a consultant role and Bart Rogers will remain as Rivermen President and CEO. The Rivermen have served as a Blues affiliate in recent years.
Man given probation for DUI accident that injured another man
A Peoria man was sentenced Thursday morning in connection with an incident that left former Manual High School Basketball star Howard Nathan partially paralyzed. 49-year-old Miguel Ceja was given two years of probation along with a 500 dollar fine and 90 days work release after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol, a Class A misdemeanor.On the night of July 30th 2006, Ceja collided into Nathan's vehicle in the 2300 block of North University street as he pulled into oncoming...

CityLink has announced it's July 4th holiday mass transit schedule.  Spokeswoman Alice Nobles Arn says regular bus routes stop running early Thursday evening.  She says the last buses to leave the Transit Center will be at 8:45 pm.  Arn says there will be no regular mass transit service on July 4th. Peoria Mayor says Community helping make safer Peoria
Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis is crediting the community as a whole for the drop in violent crime in the city of Peoria in 2008. Last year when July 1st rolled around the city had seen 13 homicides. There has only been one in 2008. That was the death of five month old Benjamin Sergeant in February.
